The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a Combine turned Resistance military cargo plane cut from Half-Life 2.[1]
Overview[]
According to the Weather Control story fragment featured in Raising the Bar, the C-130 was to land in the Weather Control area during or after its assault by Gordon Freeman, Alyx Vance, and her father Captain Vance, leading his Conscripts.[1]
Gordon and Alyx were to board it to return to City 17 during the battle, and crash into the Skyscraper in City 17.[1] Alyx was to be hurt in the crash, and would ask Gordon to find her father already fighting on the street, in his headquarters (it seems that Vance was to get back to City 17 by other means or with another chopper/C-130 than Gordon and Alyx's one, since he is already busy in his headquarters when they crash),[2] part of that journey consisting of the Skyscraper chapter and the "sniper vs. Conscripts" episode.[1][3]
Behind the scenes[]
- It is likely that the plane was to consist in a static brush likely seen before, during and after the journey. Some parts of the journey might have been seen with inside views of the plane. No related files for the C-130 exist in the leaked files.
- According to sound files for the Skyscraper found in the playable Half-Life 2 Beta files, Conscript chatter indicates the C-130 was later replaced by a chopper.[2] The playable Half-Life 2 Beta files also feature models and textures of parts of an Osprey, which is likely the kind of chopper it was to be.
- There is no C-130 model or textures in the game files, implying it was cut early in development.
