Hunt Down the Freeman Classic is a demake of Hunt Down The Freeman in the Goldsrc engine. The project is headed by the HDTFC Committee and is currently still in development with four released demos. The mod features some weapons and enemies from the original game as well as a few standard Half-Life weapons and enemies.
Much like Half-Life 2 Classic and Black Mesa Classic, Hunt Down the Freeman Classic attempts to recreate its original source material entirely within the Goldsrc engine.

Trivia[]
- The Standard Zombies more closely resemble and behave like their counterparts in Half-Life 2 and its episodes. They limp and their arms are close to their bodies, and if the host is killed, the Headcrab can detach from the body and attack the player (true for all Headcrab variants in the mod). This is because the Standard zombies, their variants, and the Headcrab variants were ported from Half-Life 2 into the Goldsrc engine.
- The Standard Zombies themselves also come in several variations, (scientist zombies, security guard zombies, soldier zombies, police officer zombies, doctor zombies, nurse zombies, construction worker zombies, and civilian zombies).
- The HECU were brought more in line with their appearance in the original Hunt Down the Freeman, sporting a blue camo suit as opposed to a gray camo suit with a green vest.
- The mod may be the only instance of the MP5 and Colt Model 727 being in the game separately as opposed to only in the Standard Definition and High Definition respectively.
- The Combat Knife lacks an opening hole in the middle, which the weapon had in Opposing Force.
- When injured, Mitchell makes pained noises such as grunts and yells.
- The AR2 and Hunters ported from Half-Life 2 and Episode 2, hence why their appearances has not changed significantly from the base games from which they originated.
- The Bullsquid comes in two variations, its original appearance in the first Half-Life and its coloring in the Half-Life 2 beta (dark red).
- Despite the game not using the HD models, the M9 and Colt 727 are in the game as individual weapons, along with the MP5 as well.
- The Grunt Synths also come in several variations, with orange or blue helmets and their heads resembling the original Hunt Down the Freeman synths or the Alien Assassins.
- The Security Guards come in several variaties as well, with the original helmeted guard, a non helmeted variant, and an African-American variant with or without a helmet (using the head of Luther, mirroring how Valve used the Human Sergeant's head for one of the HECU grunts after it was scrapped).
- Another mod with the same name was also being developed by a different team, but that project was scrapped and abandoned shortly afterwards.
- Parkour returns from the original game, albeit the player is able to climb on pipes much like they can with ladders.
