Dr. Mertz is a Black Mesa scientist who was accommodated in the Level 3 Dormitories in the Black Mesa South Wing. There they shared room 311 with Pitchford.

Behind the scenes

This scientist only appears as a name beside a bedroom door in the fifth chapter of Half-Life: Decay, Domestic Violence.
Like their HECU recruit namesake, "Mertz" is a nod to David Mertz, employee at Gearbox, placed there as an Easter egg.
