The Super Definition Models, otherwise known as the SD Models or just the PlayStation 2 Models, is a collection of new and upgraded models for the ones in the Half-Life series that were notably have a higher poly count than the High Definition Pack. They were created by Gearbox Software and only included in the PlayStation 2 port of Half-Life as well as its expansion, Decay.
Overview[]
The character models contains facial features and individual fingers that can be animated, which took advantage of the PlayStation 2's “Level of Detail” system that allowed them to have more detail without sacrificing performance. Alongside the characters, various creatures and props also got new models to go alongside this detail. These include the Alien Grunt, Barnacle, Cockroach, Headcrab, HEV Suit, and HECU Sentry Gun.
The Heath and H.E.V chargers, and retinal scanners got completely new models with them being fully 3D and having animations when in use.
Similarities with the High Definition Pack[]
Despite having some major differences, the SD models have some similarities with the HD pack. The scientists, security guards all use the same uniform. All the weapons, with the exception of the Gluon Gun with minor texture differences, use the same models and animations from the HD pack.
